Interview with Tyler Pennell

Joining us on the show is Tyler Panell, NASCAR guru, paint scheme guy. What you've been doing on the off season. Ah, just just hanging out, just counting down the days until NASCAR comes back and we're finally here. Oh my god. I was just saying, man, I'm so excited. Like, NASCAR is kind of interesting. Whereas most sports, you start off with the preseason, then you have the boring like football has the stupid scrimmage games that nobody watches, and then occasionally you'll have a rival game, and then you eventually build up to the super Bowl, which we had last night. Right except for why do you use me? It's because I learned one word and if I ever get to use it, I like to use it. But NASCAR is neat. We get the super Bowl of NASCAR, the Great American Race the beginning of the year, everybody's excited, but it doesn't drop off after that. You've got neat races throughout the season. So I think NASCAR is kind of unique. Oh, that's definitely unique. I mean they jump right into it. There's there's no messing around, and you know, even last weekend there with the clash of Bowman Gray I thought that was really exciting. Yeah, I wasn't sure how that was gonna go, and you hit the nail on the hit it was. It was neat Tyler. What do you think about that? Doing short tracks for the preseason, maybe not the LA Coliseum, but but going to our roots, you know, in the Southeast and hit those old tracks to start the year. I like it a lot better. I mean, they going to LA that was I mean, that was more or less a pipe dream. You know, they're trying to create a fan out of a out of a region of the country that it's just you know, it's a cool story whatever for one year. But yeah, what they did with Bowman Gray, that's what they should continue to do. I don't think go to Bowman Gray for the rest of time, but you know, go there for two three years and then go fix up another short track and try that. I think that's the blueprint. Now, Oh my god, you could just tell what it meant to that whole area, dude, it meant everything. To put them in a late model race or up here and run Natural Bridge. We got a dirt track here. It's it's a I mean, that would just be fun to watch. Stuff like that instead of building a dirt track out of Bristol's, go to a real dirt track and raise some kind of modified or something. No. Absolutely, Yeah, Well, you know they got speed weeks down here. They race it Volusha, they race it New Samurna. You know, I think it'd be a good opportunity for them to showcase those tracks that don't get the recognition when these guys are running twice as much as what they're doing at Daytona. So it'd be cool to go to one of those places. Man, When I was a kid, Franklin County Speedway and Darryl Waltrip would come or Bobby Allison would come, that place was freaking packed and it just helped build the sport. Sure, yeah, yeah, all right. Speaking of the sport, we had a lot of change over, so a lot of new places, new faces, different teams. Is there any specific one that you're kind of interested to see this year and maybe like probably because it's a paint scheme thing or just a cool scenario, I guess. I mean as far as new I nobody really excites me, honestly. The bit the one I'm looking forward to the most is Carson Josovar I think Host of R is in for a breakout year this year. Yes, SVG intrigues me. I noticed he was doing pretty good a Bowman Gray. I mean he was moving up. That is an interesting one. Yeah, Plus it's Carlo cool. I know you didn't give it a great rating at Bowman Gray, which, by the way, I know you weren't a big fan of the Bowman I mean the track house paint schemes, because you switch to say it looked like Nike socks. Yeah, I wasn't a fan that I used. But under that light, yeah, that that bright blue and the green that SVG had, I mean I thought that was pretty cool. I mean, I'll give him that. That's the thing though, most paint schemes look better under the lights anyway, Yeah, definitely. Yeah, So like like Bowman, I don't like the whole thing he's doing with the purple on a side and then no blend into the roof, just straight the black, but it did look good under the lights. Yeah, you're listening to Life Liberty Happiness. We're live with Tyler Panell. Tyler does paint schemes for NASCAR. You've got that coming up on Wednesday every Wednesday, right, we check in about what time do you release the paint schemes on Wednesdays? Usually between like six and seven o'clock. It depends on when I get it done. And mostly I keep track of it on TikTok. But you also have YouTube as well. Yeah, I started branching out the YouTube just in case the TikTok deal goes away. Oh man, that's how I lost contact with Tyler because I got a new phone. My daughter says, hey, you know, when you get a new phone, you're not gonna have TikTok. And I was like, now you're telling me that it's my teenage daughter. I was like, oh shoot, I just lost contact with Tyler. So I thank god Brian was able to reach out to you. Man. That sucks. So if you get a new Apple phone, just let you know you can't download, even though everything else converts over. Yeah, you don't get TikTok. They want you download. Hopefully. Luckily I just got a new phone before all this went down, so I'm good for a little bit. Yeah, just a little bit. Yeah all right, So is there anything coming up paint scheme wise that you think, well, I mean, do they move the numbers again? This year. I think they're still front. No, they're still they're still slid forward. Yeah, I noticed some of them they try to some of them push it back a little further than others, though, I've noticed that. How about I think I noticed how many races do you get to go to this year? Like actually physically go you? Yeah, well, definitely being Daytona. I'm local of Daytona, so both of those races. Definitely Atlanta in the summer, I'm going to the Coke six hundred from a bachelor party, yeah, and the Glenn going to the Glen this year. I'm from up that way. But so have you ever been to Charlotte Motor Speedway. I've been to the Speedway. I haven't seen a race there, though. Hey, man, are you going to camp up there? We had to camp up there. You want to do the six this year? I know? Wow, I used to do I did it for like twenty years and then just haven't been had kids. Yeah, life got in the way, damn it. Yeah, damn it. Reagan in your damn volleyball god. Yeah, wait, Tyler, you're You've got you. Eventually you have to deal with that too, won't you. I don't know. About all that. I don't think I'm ready for that. I still feel like a kid. I hear you. Hey, speaking of Daytona, what you're filling on the second race not being the Firecracker four hundred or the Pepsi four hundred or the July fourth weekend that they moved it. What do you think about that? I'm not a fan of that. I mean, they moved it to August when you know they had they had some trouble with weather for the July fourth weekend, but they move it to August where you have even more trouble with weather. I mean, right in the right in the prime time of hurricane season. They move a race, one of the most important races of the year. That's what I think sucks. Yeah. Yeah, and then just completely eliminate that. I mean they've been doing that for years on July fourth. Yeah yeah, I mean that's what we always look forward to is throwing a cookout and watching Firecracker. Saturday night race, cook out, drink, have friends over. Yeah. Hey, So Trent had brought up a great point. What is your take on this? Since we start out with Daytonah, would it be bad to end with Daytona. Uhuh oh that would be a disaster. Oh yeah, with the way I mean if they changed the playoff format and the points system, maybe you want to be so bad but with a with a win win to win the championship. Deal, that would be a disaster. Do you have I can't I can't tell if you like the guy or don't like the guy because every week it's like you have a feud, but then you say something good, but then you meet the guy and then is is John Hunter Recacheck? Are you a fan or not a fan? I'm still trying to figure that out. You know, I'm not really sure myself, to be honest, you know, I kind of struggle with that. So I actually made a list. I went one through thirty six, all all the full time drivers, and because there's a lot of confusion on who I actually like and who I actually disliked, so I actually made a list and put it on my Twitter so people could get a little more of a clear image. And Nima Check I think placed like twelve on the list. But a lot of that has to do with that. You know, he brought me to the race. Yeah, you know, he gave me VIP treatment. Guy's trying to love you, yeah, trying to get your love. Yeah. So you know he was cool, and you know we did a cool thing with the little interview thing we did where you know, I kind of roasted him up a little bit. He's an all right guy, but it did cost me eight hundred dollars a couple of years ago in a truck race, they're driving like an asshole. So I mean, oh man, if you got if people listening to us have not heard you, go, you gotta go find Tyler. What's what are your handles? Tyler? Where can they find you at TikTok? TikTok at Nascar, Tyler. TikTok at Nascar, Tyler, That's where I've hopefully went my phone. Or when Trump fixes the country there again, we can get TikTok again. I'll be able to watch it. But right now I found you on YouTube, so I had to had to figure out how to get to you at another spot. What about Daytona five hundred picks? You got anybody you think could do it? So I've I've been on this guy for like a month now. Ryan pries me too. Ryan Priese is winning the five hundred. That's my pig he's in I mean, is he one of the old Stuart has cars? Yes, he looked that way. Yeah, Ryan Pries, he's in a third RFK. Car now, but he is yeah, Okay, that's what's going to make him. He's a he's a great Well you had that accident. Where was his accident where it was bad? Was that at Daytona? It was at dayton Yeah, this summer read Oh my god, it was nasty. We speaking of uh, I guess it was a Daytona wreck that was nasty. Yeah. Yeah, because he walked out of the hospital on his bare feet. I saw Ryan Newman at the car auction in Greensboro. I mean he's he's out there doing the broadcasting for whatever that yeah, to make him now would make him. It was Greensboro Auto Show. Okay, yeah, that's kind of cool. Did he have shoes on? Okay, all right, hot wife too. Yeah. I never understood why they couldn't find that guy a pair of shoes when he walked out, but it was Yeah. How about the uh? How about a prediction for the champion this year? The champion. I've been big on this one since since Joe Gibbs started letting him run on dirt again. Christopher Bell. Oh, I think Christopher Bell is gonna win him. This is his redemption tour. Yeah, yeah too. It's just bad that Legano is going to get in his way again. Yeah, okay, okay, okay, mister Mickey Mouse, Mickey Mouse Champion. Yeah, who do you think, Brian, I'm gonna writ him down here. I don't know. I feel like Chase Elliott's got that momentum right now for the season. Yeah. I just he looks like he's focused this year coming in. He wasn't too focused on that super Bowl last night. He looked like he was sleeping. Oh I didn't see that he was at the game. They showed him on the broadcast and he was about he was looked asleep to me either that are completely miserable. Hey, do we have a like Nascar sometimes goes through these lulls where they lose personalities, Like Clint Barrier was a personality, and you before that, h Rusty Waller and some of those guys, who is their personality now? Like who is that guy in the garage? That's a good, good question, Like who do you go to for a funny interview? Yeah? I mean or anything like that. I mean, who's that guy? They're so corporate nowadays. Yeah, sure, as hecking their guy Billy Byron. Oh goodness, like who the hell names and William? I mean, come on, yeah, Tyler, Hey, that's your goal this year, Tyler, is to get them to start calling him Billy Byron. Billy bad Billy, badass. We're trying to make him tough. I don't think I can make him top The guy was building lego sets, lego sets before the championship. I mean, come on, hey, did. Girl set and he dumped the uh Blaney's sister. Yeah, I don't know if. Oh yeah, guarantee you she dumped him. He probably had to have dumped him. Yeah, they kidding. Hey, I got a surprise for the show here. I didn't tell. Logo in the middle of a lego in the middle of the night and kicked him out. So in honor of Tyler, you know how he does the paint schemings of the week. Yes, all right, I've got the fire and we do every week Tyler, we do a top ten. So I'm going to mix the two shows and I'm gonna do instead of ten because we'd be here a long time, I'm gonna do the top five Tyler Panel paint schemeing comments of the Year, Perfect twenty twenty four. All right, oh boy, all right, I hope you enjoy these two. Number five, congrats to Daniel Suarez on becoming a citizen. Now you get to pay taxes. Yeah, that was a good one. Number four. Man, some of these, I'm telling you, man, I go down the road and I listened to him, and I'll just glimpse down at the phone while I see him. And one was Denny Hamlin's face. It's because they didn't get the. Fans paint scheme in whatever it was supposed to be for the paint scheme, So he actually raided Denny Hamlin's face and gave him a four. Oh gosh, number three. It was kind of a combined. It was a couple during the season, but he combined Chase. He congratulated Chase Briscoe because his wife was pregnant. He said, congratulate him on having. Sex, and then said, because he's having twins, he must have some super sperm. Number two, and it still this goes back to Denny Hamlin. But man, I'm telling you, I laughed out loud like tears come out of my eyes when he said they showed the break plus car. It was just this red plain car. And he said, whoever was supposed to do this procrastinated to the end of the week, and then they came to him and said, hey, you got to do the car and he's like, oh shit. So he looks over at ray Evernham his paper and steals the color scheme. That's about accurate. And the number one is the one that makes me laugh every week is when you do. And I'm gonna call this the big baby scumbag comment of the year is the Joey Logano laugh. Oh man, yeah, oh me, oh man. You can tell we're big fans. Love it. Yeah, I appreciate it, man, that's that's funny. All right, Well, enjoy your week and we can't wait till the paint schemes come out Wednesday. Uh, and hope to talk to you soon, Tyler. Thanks for taking time out of your day. Hey, maybe we'll see him on the sixth hundred. Yeah cool, yeah, hopefully hopefully. I see you guys around. Man. Appreciate you having me on
